Οι Brit Floyd γιορτάζουν τα 45 χρόνια από την κυκλοφορία του «Dark Side of the moon» με μια μεγάλη περιοδεία που -ευτυχώς για εμάς- περνάει από την Ελλάδα (Παρασκευή 26/11 στην Αθήνα και Σάββατο 27/11 στη Θεσσαλονίκη).

Shine on You Crazy Diamond as performed by Brit Floyd at The Chicago Theatre. Using Pink Floyd’s half moon arc as a backdrop the graphics exemplify the incredibly sad homage to Pink Floyd’s original front man Syd Barrett. . Brit Floyd recaptured the sentiment as first laid out by The Floyd with their recreation of the original band’s rendition. The colors and jumbled graphics are more than a 60’s groovy setting as they represent the backdrop of Syd’s quick decline from reality (at least for me growing up as a huge Pink Floyd fan). . Backstory - Syd was the front man and creative genius of the band until 1968 when he was replaced by childhood friend David Gilmour. This change was precipitated by Syd’s decline into the world of acid where he eventually fried his brain beyond repair. . Pink Floyd was desperately looking for a follow up to the smash success of Dark Side of the Moon and came upon the thematic idea of this guilt laden homage to a friend they couldn’t save. The band argued heavily until Roger Waters prevailed on the idea that the album should be theme driven and bookended by Shine. . The album was driven by the sadness of not being able to save Syd juxtaposed against the band’s disillusionment with the record industry that forced them to choose between writing and playing music versus the business side pressures to churn out hit after hit.
